I've heard of the word date being used for other than a romantic thing. Play date for kids. Sometimes my girlfriends and I will make plans and we'll say "so that's a date then". You can make dates for lunch.

I think it's just something scheduled.


the thing is you guys keep prefacing the word date with another word that changes the intent of the "date."

"play date" "mom date" those all change the meaning of the word "date" from the romantic sense.

just saying "i'm going on a date" is romantic. "i'm going on a date with my son/i was out on a date with my son" is weird contextually.
