The idea that their traditions/beliefs/myths/whatever need to change is simple enough reason that some would believe this.
Want to know how you can make it worse? Completely marginalized the beliefs while you spout this bullshit by pointing out that it doesn't matter cause "Santa isn't real" and shit like that.
The fucking arrogance of it. He's not only trying to change tradition that people have held dear, but also act like it's no big fucking deal.
If it's no big fucking deal, why does it need to change at all?
1. This book is one obscure instance of someone changing the fictional character of Santa to a gay one. Why does this rock your boat so much?
2. No one is forcing anyone to change their traditions or beliefs. I'm not sure I follow you here. You and anyone else are free to celebrate Santa in any way you want.
