Coates pointed to another example of a white friend who used to have a cabin in upstate New York that he called the white trash cabin. I would never refer to that cabin in that way, Coates said. I would never tell him, Im coming to your white trash cabin.

Coates added, The question one must ask is why so many white people have difficulty extending things that are basic laws of how human beings interact to black people.

I guess the obvious rejoinder is that this is not a basic law of how humans interact, because it is much more socially acceptable for black people to use terms like "white trash"
