it just felt very good in my hands. thats what sold me on it. button layout never bothered me much. once I got muscle memory down button layout isn't a problem provided I don't have to over extend any fingers to reach a button.

The problem I have with the button layout is the uneven buttons. It's fine for most GameCube games, but imagine playing something like 2D Mario or DKC where you want to be constantly holding down a run button. Even the Mega Man collection I had on there felt so awkward it was unplayable. Granted, that might be because of the inexplicable decision to reverse the A and B buttons, but it still felt to me like it would have been awkward regardless.

It's an interesting concept in emphasizing primary buttons when a game is well-designed to maximize the controller, but I don't really think that's necessary either. There's a reason why virtually every popular controller since the SNES goes with the symmetrical four-button layout.
