As a child, I heard that it was the devil's holiday, but not necessarily that it was his birthday or anything of that nature. I never thought about it before, but the only year that I got to go trick-or-treating was the Halloween after my parents and I had moved two hours away from our old home. And, subsequently, our old church.

It's funny how Halloween stopped being a day of devil worship and hidden razor blades the moment we were separated from the influence of the ultra-conservative church we had attended. Plenty of good people at that place, including the pastors, but man that was some craziness to get caught up in.
