Jesus, when did hating on Rick and Morty become the next cool thing?

Anything high brow will lend itself to that. Because a subset of the fandom will think that their enjoyment of said media is a sign of their intelligence. It comes off as arrogant, and a bit disingenuous too, because it is likely that they aren't as smart as their interest in something that simply references topics in science and philosophy might imply. The perception is that they are "trying too hard to come off as deep." Or otherwise, you get people who "relate" to a character like Rick when in reality they are nothing at all alike.

It's way too easy to make fun of that type of person, even if they're the extreme minority of those that watch the show. The bandwagon just got taken a little too far with the R&M hate though, but that doesn't surprise me. Most people are unfunny, unoriginal, and will drive anything trending into the ground.

Anti-R&M posts are in the "me too!" phase right now.
