I think a lot of people that claim to be ''athiest'' just claim to be because they dont agree with religion in general.

I myself, was brought up catholic, learned of the spread of Christianity freshman year in highschool, after having an entire quarter dedicated to space, and the universe and the end of 8th grade year, and the missions, and crusades made me really question what the hell was going on with religions foundations.

The more and more i learned, the more i felt religion was this well oiled, man made machine, that had caused so much pain and suffering for thousands of years, and still does to some degree, in certain parts of the world.

I refused to dedicate myself to any religion, or say i was Christian, or Catholic--etc...so i just went with the term athiest, and alluded to the fact that i wouldnt deny the possibility of a greater mind, or the fact that this all was created by some higher order unknown to us currently.

I like sciences objective approach to creation, but even science has a hard time acknowledging the fact that there IS a higher order that basically seeds the universe at a quantum level, allowing reality to be what it is due to that specific order, or intelligent creative capability.

I think its distasteful for Christians to mock athiests/agnostics just as well as vice versa. Going off their religion, that is not what God would ''want'' them to do to those who seem ''lost''.
