We need to go back and look at who the first people were to equate Kaepernick's kneeling with "HE HATES VETERANS"

They framed it that way for a reason, because they know this country absolutely deifies its military and it would be the quickest way to get everyone to bandwagon against him.

Kaep started his protest last year by sitting on the bench. It went unremarked on initially, until a reporter comment on it and he said he was doing it to protest what he perceived to be institutional racism. This got the attention of Nate Boyer, long snapper and former Green Beret who penned an open letter to Kaep in the army times.

I'm not judging you for standing up for what you believe in. It's your inalienable right. What you are doing takes a lot of courage, and I'd be lying if I said I knew what it was like to walk around in your shoes. I've never had to deal with prejudice because of the color of my skin, and for me to say I can relate to what you've gone through is as ignorant as someone who's never been in a combat zone telling me they understand what it's like to go to war.

Even though my initial reaction to your protest was one of anger, I'm trying to listen to what you're saying and why you're doing it. When I told my mom about this article, she cautioned me that "the last thing our country needed right now was more hate." As usual, she's right.

Kaep invited him to San Francisco where the two talked for two hours, and Boyer ultimately suggested he thought it would be more respectful to the military if he kneeled instead of sat. His reasoning:

"We sorta came to a middle ground where he would take a knee alongside his teammates," Boyer says. "Soldiers take a knee in front of a fallen brother's grave, you know, to show respect. When we're on a patrol, you know, and we go into a security halt, we take a knee, and we pull security."

So ultimately the reason Kaep kneels instead of sits is specifically because he wanted to show more respect to the military while keeping his protest ongoing about racial inequality in America. Obviously this isn't the opinion of EVERYONE in the military because they are a diverse group of people just like anyone else, so Boyer doesn't speak for all of them. But to act like he is just doing this because he hates America and hates the military is entirely missing the point.
