Because the company knows that the tech in those machines isn't worth anymore, will be outdated soon if it isn't already by launch, and is just a platform to sell their software on. Scalpers literally rely on the fact that morons exist and will pay any price to have the latest and greatest toy for either themselves or their kids. Because apparently if you dont get it the moment it comes out, you are a loser and will completely miss out on the first 18 months of bug fixes, server issues, and hardware failures that were somehow capable of making past quality inspectors and playtesters.
