It seems like we're calling two completely different scenarios identical.

The difference is that, ideally, left-leaning people are mature enough to be able to criticize each other and still work together in the end against a common enemy agenda. Democrats and those farther left may disagree on HOW socialist the country needs to be, but we all agree that regulations and some level of wealth redistribution is good.

We just squabble over whether incrementalism is the best way.

Granted that didn't pan out so well in 2016. But I can take some solace in the knowledge that even if Colbert gets dragged through the mud for one (perceived) misstep, he's not suddenly going to turn around and actually campaign Trump 2020. He's not Tomi Lahren.
