The biggest problem is that the gamepad's range is small as hell, and it's too big to use as a controller, whereas the Switch can let you use the Joy-con and the control scheme would feel absolutely the same whether or not the controllers are attached to the system. I dunno if it was particularly underpowered either. It still ran BotW, and it had games like Xenoblade X or Bayonetta 2.
