There seems to be a different in reaction to a child molester or rapist getting beaten up or raped in jail. And that happening to someone that robbed a bank for example. A lot of people don't differentiate. A child molester and someone with a few ounces of pot are both "criminals" and the Tough On Crime crowd doesn't usually dig past that.
