The issue is the specific tax rule that lets them write off the cost of the project on the condition that they can never use any of the stuff that was made. So all the people who spend like two years+ on the animation and music etc now have a giant gap in their portfolio.

If the tax rule didn't work like that or didn't exist, then they'd probably release the movie in some form because there would no longer be an incentive to do nothing with it.

Basically our corporate accounting laws artificially create a reason for them to destroy finished art. It's stupid
