Super Saiyan 3 Goku was never capable of putting down Majin Buu. Sure he caught him by surprise and punched him a few times, but after Goku released his grip on him Majin Buu was back in the fight ready to go but Goku ran away. You can't judge a DBZ characters strength based on what happens when you catch them by surprise and Goku is the poster child for that. Krillin caught him by surprise and bashed his head in with a rock and he also got shot and nearly killed by Frieza's henchman with a gun. Getting his head hit with a rock and him getting shot took the fight out of him, but nobody ever says that because of those things that Krillin or Frieza's dude are stronger than Goku, yet they turn around and say that Goku could beat Majin Buu. It's freaking madness! He couldn't even beat Kid Buu with super saiyan 3 without receiving literally a planet's worth of energy and being topped up by the dragon first, yet I'm supposed to just take it for some fanboys word that he had Majin Buu in the bag cause he caught him off guard? Man fuck out of here!

Also, Super Buu didn't get stronger than Majin Buu until he started fusing with half the cast. Super Buu, coming out fresh from being created by evil Buu dominating good Buu, was the same exact strength as Majin Buu. Math doesn't math in any other way than to put the two at equal strength. Sure, Super Buu and even Kid Buu may have been more dangerous than Majin Buu, but that doesn't make them stronger. An evil toddler throwing a temper tantrum is a greater danger to your physical well being than Mike Tyson reading a book, but lord knows you wouldn't say that because you punched Tyson and ran away that he was weaker than the toddler you stuck around and traded a few blows with.

I can respect that. I think back to Krillin Destructo Disc vs Nappa, a much weaker fighter can catch a vastly superior fighter by surprise (especially if they know they are far above their opponent) but that doesn't mean they're on the same level
