To me the idea of a chili purist doesn't even make sense. Isn't the roots of the dish to throw together whatever shit you could afford and scavenge into a hearty meal for everyone? Since when was it a defined list of ingredients...

I dunno. I prefer the idea that this is just one of those recipes where the "purity" of it is in being authentic about using what you have access to, rather than a specific list of things that are/are not allowed.

But yeah that ingredient list is bonkers silly
