my point is they didnt mess up their departure and decolonization, you dont see Mexico invading Guatemala and El Salvador being at a 80 year war with Nicaragua over a piece of land, if you know what I mean.

Well some context there - its not like the Mexicans and Guatemalans have holy sites on each others land that they have been praying to for thousands of years. They dont really see their national identity to be as old as Jews and Arabs see theirs. Their traditions were wiped out through cultural diffusion thanks to Christianity.

And I would also argue that the reason why south american countries arent invading each other is because they were united in kicking the Spanish out, if memory serves. Simon Bolivar and all that. Besides, many of them seem to want to come to America anyway. I thought for the most part during the early 19th century, there were a series of revolutions that forced the Europeans to leave. So the two situations wouldnt be all that comparable.
