Safe R districts are filled with wannabe congresscritters. There'd be no problem finding a far right alternative in basically any safe GOP district that'd get easy Fox News boosts.
That said, close to toss-up districts means GOP voters would likely stay home on election day, allowing the Dem challenger to win, knowing the GOP candidate is a "sell out." It would feel like safe R districts would have less to risk. Anyone in a competitive district would get primaried AND be signing their own death warrant.
