You might want to reread what I wrote again:

I didn't say it was universally panned. I didn't say it was objectively bad. I have no personal opinion of the game because I haven't played it (or Botw either, for that matter). I also haven't played BGIII.

But from my perspective, without ever having sought out information or reviews on either game, I've heard tons of people crapping on TotK for being repetitive and lazy, and I'm not sure I've actually heard a single negative opinion of BGIII. TotK barely blipped on my radar when it came out, while I still see people talking about BGIII. Even when dipping into the GameFAQs game boards I saw tons of posts on the TotK board complaining about the game while most of the BGIII board posts were way more positive.

Just from my viewpoint, solely via pop culture osmosis, one of those games is dramatically more well-received than the other.

Like it or not, that's a factual statement - and literally nothing you say or do will actually alter that in any way.
