Donkey Kong presumedly in the Mushroom Kingdom world, now with the existence of stuff like New Donk City. Mario Bros just in some sewer. In interviews they've said the initial thought was New York sewers, but they say they literally did not put any actual thought into it and it doesn't actually mean anything for the rest of the series. The Yoshi's Island series and New Donk City suggest they've moved away from that idea for the games.
