Come to think of it what are their orders? Do they have to take instructions from him? Are they allowed to restrain him? I assume its outlined in the relevant legislation somewhere but I wouldnt know where to start.

I doubt it, so much of our current set of laws takes for granted that the President isn't a bad actor. However, the Secret Service detail works for the federal government via the Department of Homeland Security. Which reports to the president (the current one). Presumably they would have to follow any orders his government gives them, including disobeying their charge if they try to flee justice.
