How is it unimmersive or "current day" for a trans person to exist in 300+ years when humanity becomes fully spacefaring? The genre tackles discussions on humans or sentience that doesn't conform to "normal" standards as its baseline and has longer than this guy has been alive.
I really think if something like Ghost in the Shell came out today people like this - who didn't bat an eye 30 years ago - would have unhinged meltdowns over it.
