I might do something that makes someone happy even if it makes me unhappy. That's not selfish. I contend that it is. That happiness we feel, that rush of endorphins, that we get from doing good deeds or loving other people is tangible. Sure, we may do things that don't make us happy in the short term, but by seeing the other person happy, does that not make us happy in turn? --- This rant was brought to you by your local random thinker.
