And when that loved one makes them not feel good anymore (like, betrayal is what I'm mostly alluding to here)? They're no longer a loved one. Like that one Beatles song goes, "Love has a nasty habit of disappearing over night". I know that John Lennon meant something else by that, but still: love can vanish just as quickly as it can form.

Maybe I have a too utilitarian view of it, but that's how I see it.
Nah this is nonsense

"You only care about others because it feels good!" is bullcrap.

No one feels good waiting an hour in the rain to pick up a loved one from somewhere. No one feels good after a bitter arguement with someone they are intimate with.

Hell the proof is in the pudding. Look at narcissists and sociopaths who literally only care about feeling good. They don't care about other people because it doesn't benefit themselves to do so.
