The reboot really felt like it needed another year in development to be a hit. It felt like a starting point, something to build upon. The goal seemed to be to combine what made SR2 the objective best game in the series with modern technology and appeal to younger gamers. It was certainly better managed than SR3, which discarded their existing fanbase for a new one that never came.

This is why I'm sad. They were unable to take what they had and make something great from it, similar to the original SR1.
But do zoomers even want to play as zoomers in their games? Why not make a cast of characters that are timeless? The characters from the original series seemed pretty timeless and people can appreciate them to this day. Who would ever look back on the cast of the reboot series and think any of these characters had legs? Who would look back fondly at any of them?

I think claiming that SR3 didn't get a new fan base is disingenuous though. That game did nearly double the sales as the second game. It was a drastically different direction, for sure, but it still seemed to have an identity with longevity to it.
