Tons of ways it could have happened like in the texts. Just because things are the way they are now, doesn't mean they were always that way.

As an example, the bible lists all these insanely long life spans early on, but they grow shorter and shorter, especially after noah's time. Perhaps initially humans and even most animals had far longer life spans but due to inbreeding that drastically reduced over time. Right now you can't sustain a species with only 2 animals, but who is to say that originally you could, they just wouldn't be as "perfect" and you ended up with what we have now eventually.

Do I personally believe that it happened that way? Not even a little bit, but I would not flat out state it's impossible for it to have. It sure isn't very likely, but there are tons of explanations that could be made for how it is possible.
