They can set up paywalls, go on Patreon, sell merch, produce sponsored content, or use ads. If they want to force the ads, they can restrict the site to those without ad blockers. If they choose to do none of those things, that's (literally) their business. my comment was more referring to consumers. A non-trivial portion of the population seems to not want to pay for things or watch ads in lieu of paying for it.
