Yup we went far too easy on the south. Lincoln with his "malice towards none" speech meant well but was naive. The south should have been punished. Stripped of statehood is a good start.

Lee, Davis, Stevens and the rest if the confederate military leadership should have been tried and convicted of treason and hanged. Pardoning them was a giant mistake.
