When I was in high school, there was a shelf in the library for all sorts of religious texts. You had the Bible, but you also had the Quran as well as texts relating to Buddhism and Hinduism and stuff.

I don't think the Bible should be banned from being in a school library. To that end, I agree with the backlash.

But that comes with like a hundred different caveats, because this controversy is one pro-religion controversy after decades and decades of religion - specifically, evangelical American Christianity - squashing the rights of others.

They wanted books with queer people removed from schools. They wanted books criticizing and analysing racism and slavery removed from schools. They wanted the Quran removed from schools. Fuck, didn't Mississippi try and ban Yoga as a radical religious experience that was "confusing children"?

Then there's Creationism, where a bunch of conservative religious morons argued for the right to teach a pseudo-scientific religious origin of the world in opposition to evolution, because the theory of evolution was "against the teachings of God". Right-wing hypocrites like to bitch and moan about "facts over feelings", but where were they when conservatives replaced a long-standing scientific theory with "God made the world 6000 years ago and made dinosaur bones to confuse us?"

So while I do think the Bible should be available to check out of a school library, I'm not so sympathetic to the righteous indignation of these conservative cocksuckers. Oh no, your precious widdle booky-wook got taken out of schools? Frankly, I almost think they deserve it. Apologize for blatantly using "Critical Race Theory" to remove any text you disagree with in school, apologize for banning religious texts from other religions, and apologize for pushing Creationism as a valid alternative to evolution. Otherwise, suck shit and live like the rest of us, you fucking cretins.
