Reddit is a platform that has never been profitable and has a massive user base to support; they want to do an IPO to take the company public -- these are changes are going to happen whether the mods like it or not. The IPO was delayed, probably because they knew they couldn't be profitable with their existing model. At best, they will haggle over the API cost; at worst, new mods.
