For being bad writers and not appreciating the source material, basically.

Yenn just does things for me.

Also, as someone who's read all the Witcher books...the source material isn't that good. Like the world building is solid. The characters are decent and like the spark notes of the plot are okay. But the pacing is all sorts of fucked and a lot of specific plot elements aren't very good. The short stories that take place before the main plot were good though.

Doing a strict adaptation would be a gigantic mess. Liberties would have to be taken to be watchable.

That's not to say that all the liberties they have made have been good either. Season two was a bit of a mess, but not because they disregarded the source material.

Agreed, I appreciate the dude's dedication to source material but it's just bad. The entire way the narrative is structured is awful. Like mind boggling levels of bad. Like at points it's people from a future that might not even be their world telling a story to other people, then in that story the characters are like "yeah it's like when this happened to Geralt" then it will zoom in on Geralt or whatever viewpoint character is the focus.

There are plot hooks that are left completely unanswered and the ending is just incredibly unfulfilling because of it. If the games hadn't actually come along to continue the story it would have been even worse.

Anyone who has read it that wants to tell me what they liked about it? Seriously, because I genuinely don't understand it. I went into it wanting to love it because of the games, and was extremely disappointed.
