There's even more anti-LGBTQ political rhetoric running around than usual, largely for the sake of pandering to the "poor, oppressed conservatives" leading up to next year's election. Florida's the most egregious example of this, with DeSantis' crusade against gay/trans people that's doubling as a proxy for his personal butthurt vendetta against Disney, but a lot of states are doing similar things. A huge part of that rhetoric includes fearmongering that a large number of ignorant people are all too happy to succumb to, and that's got them lashing out at this perceived assault on their lives and their children. That's literally it. That's all it's ever been.
