I did see some hornet and/or wasp I didn't recognize though once and it looked like it had fucked up a yellow jacket and appeared to be wrapping it up like a spider would with a web. I got too close and it got spooked. It was in a screened porch and attempted unsuccessfully to bite its way through the screen. I trapped it in an empty soup can and that really pissed it off. I put it outside of the porch and then reached out the door with a dog leash to knock over the can to free it and it flew off immediately. No fucking clue what it was. Had a body structure like a hornet crossed with a bumblebee but iirc it was all black or mostly black. Very compact. Wide head. Loud buzz and hit the walls of the soup can as it was flying around loud enough to make audible pinging sounds.
