now, one thing I want to know, and dolomedes can answer this too... is the hourglass thing on the back part or underside or both?

because one time at work many years ago, there was a black spider on the outside of the building that was the right size and shape to be a black widow and it was like late october/early november and I had read that black widows like cooler temperatures. It didn't have the hourglass on top, but I didn't get to see the underside. I ran inside to get a plastic cup to trap it in but it had disappeared by the time I got back outside.
