Medussa posted...
it locked up, to the point that i had to hard reboot it. when it came back up, the wifi adapter was just gone. the ether adapter has never worked (for me, it was a handmedown, so i'm not sure if it worked for the previous owner), and my usb wifi fob won't work. presumably needs drivers, which i can't get until i get it to work. at least i have an older one that still functions fairly well, with one caveat (see question 2), so i'm not stuck mobile posting like some kind of child =p

so, two questions.

1, does anyone have any experience with a usb ethernet port? i'm assuming they'd be at least as good as wifi, but how do they compare to a hardware ether port? is a $15 one from ebay good enough? i was already considering grabbing one of these anyway, and if it'll solve two problems now instead of one i'll move it up my priority list.

2, assuming i just move back to the older one full time, can i move the SSD from the bad one to the working one? without reformatting it? i know this used to be a nono, but i'm about 20 years out of date. to both save the files i've accumulated, and to play a game that pretty much requires an SSD to function.

much thanks for any help.

The USB ethernet should work, but I believe is significantly slower max speed.

If you move the ssd you can see the files, but you can't boot from the ssd's OS on your old pc.
