TopicWhen people say it is hard to find a job, how true would you say is it?

It was extremely true for me.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Computer Information Systems. 3.85 GPA. I moved to the nearest "big" city not long after graduation and started applying.

I couldn't get responses (much less interviews) from anywhere for a long time. I couldn't get an interview at a branch of the lab where a friend worked even with a referral from him. I applied to jobs I was more than qualified for at my (at the time) fiancee's company with her referral. I tried everything I could think of from completely reworking my resume a dozen times, making a new email address, taking keywords, networking, etc. Nothing, and I mean nothing, worked. I even desperately applied for retail and fast food with similar results.

Can you imagine what that does to a guy's mental health? Imagine if you were opening up to someone you thought was a close friend, genuinely crying your eyes out because it feels like nothing is going to ever get better, and they laugh at you and tell you to sell your body instead.

I believe people when they say it's hard. I lived it. I almost didn't live through it. It makes me furious when people make light of this kind of thing.

Things are okay now though. I work in insurance. I make enough to pay the rent for a decent apartment, buy the occasional video game, and take care of my cat. That's all I ever really wanted after feeling like nothing was going to get better. Of course, I've tried looking for other jobs and have been running into a lot of the same difficulties. I've had a few interviews, but no offers. It gets me down a lot but I try not to think about it too much.
