This is mostly just an issue for Western rpg's i think. But for at least as long as I've been aware, games have always gone out of their way to let you know that male or female does not change gameplay in an rpg. From Baldur's Gate in 1998 to mmos like Everquest and World of Warcraft. None of these games ever dare to give different stats based on your gender.

Meanwhile in real life, in professional sports, males and females almost always are separated in totally distinct leagues. Would it be offensive if an rpg had a male character have higher starting strength but a female character started with higher dexterity? Or something similar to that.
