1) There was a solid decade of two where the term JRPG was only really used as an insult, and often in explicitly racist ways too.
2) Modern usage of the term JRPG is used pretty neutral, either used to describe a collection of tropes, or as a parallel to "anime".
3) They aren't sure if JRPG should be used or not. There are pros to using it, but Sterling feels the negatives currently outweigh it, and will try to avoid using the term from now on. They make no value judgements on whether others should do the same, but asks that people try for the heck of it.
I could recount the nitty gritty of their arguments but I don't think that would be too productive. If anything said here resonates with you check the video out. It's a pretty good one, and is different from their standard "Video game industry bad" takes that I usually see on their channel.
Thank you for that, I'll give it a watch when I get home. If Sterling is changing up their content I might go back and watch them more on the regular. I can only take "vide game industry bad and evil" soo long before I just grow bored of the same thing being said over and over again.
