businesses have always increased prices when possible to maximize their returns. this is nothing new. demand outstrips supply, and prices go up.

I sympathize with people who are hurting when paying for groceries, but not if that consumer shows zero price elasticity for specific goods that aren't necessary. like someone will say "beef is so expensive right now" and that should mean you instead buy something else. you continuing to spend your money on something would suggest that the price is obviously not too high. I see something that's priced too high and I change my plans on what I'm eating that week, and that should be the norm. This is neglecting the point that generally meat should be quite expensive due to how inefficient it is to produce.
