Bad causation vs correlation. Eliminating black death by killing 50% of the population can definitely make sense as an overall improvement.

That doesn't apply to the snap. It's all downside.

Also realistically, there's no reason the 50% would include Earth. There's quadrillions of people across the universe, chances half of the quadrillion who survive does not include the mere 7 billion of Earth. It would much more likely be a total wipeout.
