Topic | Would you consider nurses, doctors, or nurse practitioners normal people? |
the_rowan 01/20/23 12:44:25 AM #11: | There is a really big salary gap between an RN and an APRN or nurse practitioner, about 30-40k. I'm not really sure what this question is asking. These are white-collar jobs. Nurses have a comparable salary range to something like the IT field (technician, server admin, high level systems admin, etc.), though some doctors do make substantially more, depending on their field and experience. They are still not the sort of job that has "fuck you money" or whatever you want to call the position of being able to live a wealthy lifestyle off one's own investments for their whole lives should they quit practicing, especially with the cost of schooling to become a doctor, even though they'll be relatively well-off. I still think of them as living in the same world as the rest of us, just much more securely, for the most part; they're not the folks who own mansions and live behind gates, and they're constantly doing pretty messy and dangerous work for their money. Nursing especially is a super high-stress and high-workload job, and being a healthcare practitioner is a very dangerous field as well, including being the single field most likely to experience workplace violence (this is coming from patients/outside individuals, not coworkers). --- "That is why war is so tragic.
