It's very sad and it sucks a lot. But the pain fades over time. Eventually you might feel ready to get another pet

As a kid I usually always had multiple pets. It helped to still have pets when one died. I now live on my own. For years I didn't have a pet but I finally did get a cat. I'm worried what it will be like when my cat goes. He is my only pet, he lives in my small apartment, where I will definitely notice his absence, and he is really well and truly my cat and nobody else's. Which is different from family pets in my childhood

I think it will be a very dark time someday. I try not to think about it
