Sometimes Clark is a bit more of a persona, more slobbish and cowardly than he actually is. My impression is that the golden age Superman was the epitome of this with Clark 100% being an act he put on, but I'm not positive about that. It's definitely much more of a Batman thing nowadays. DCAU is the one that had Batman say how he doesn't call himself Bruce in his head, he calls himself Batman.
