Usually they had sandwiches, fruit, pudding cups, jello cups, muffins, slices of cake in a triangular container. Even as a kid I knew not to eat from them no matter what food was showing through the glass. The last places they existed at were motels and employee cafeterias - often paired with coffee and cigarette dispensers. Whenever I went to one of these, they were the grodiest dispensers with expired food inside. The state of the apple was the tell-tell sign.
