I actually really dislike the way they're going with Byleth and Alear as far as 'avatar characters' go because its kind of the worst possible option IMO. Literal nothing personality silent blank slate with fake choices AND you don't actually get to customize them in a meaningful way. I'd rather they do either of the previous options (no avatar, designed Lords with interesting personalities and story OR completely customizable Avatar that's either silent or has a generic personality that says as close to neutral answers as is possible). ...
