Just gonna go ahead and spoiler tag this entire post

* Yoda burning the Jedi books to put an end to the Jedi Order
* Establishing that Rey's parents were absolute nobodies and she wasn't related to a past character
* Decimating the Resistance so the Empire/Rebels 2.0 storyline could end
* Killing Snoke and transferring his power to Kylo so he could be more than "younger, angrier Darth Vader"

The first two bullet points, in addition to the reveal of other Force-sensitives awakening in places like that stupid casino planet, would have set it up so there could still be lightsabers and stuff but not as black-and-white as Jedi vs. Sith. It could have set the franchise up for more varieties of conflict, but Abrams threw literally everything out with Rise of Skywalker and reset everything back to the status quo.

Rey took the books with her.

Most people from Star Wars where nobodies. Besides Luke almost every Jedi we know came from normal parents.

How would that end the story line. The good guys still had to fight them.

Johnson made him the love interest, so he could not go that rout.
