The only reason to bet on "it's so stupid it works" is the familiarity heuristic, where things that feel familiar get rated more positively.

But the mechanism for that to work needs to be that people essentially just happen upon the product in the store, a product that they were going to buy anyway, and then they might be more likely to choose your brand because it feels slightly more familiar and people confuse that with a "good" signal.

Makes no sense in this context, and even in the best of contexts, the actual real world data on whether this works is extremely extremely weak. And if the discussion is extremely negative, I imagine it might not have any chance of working at all.
