If US soccer put some money into it and built soccer fields in inner cities and got rid of pay to play then a lot of the 6 foot freak athletes might get poached from basketball and football. They've done a really good job of this in hockey. The USNTDP has produced so many good players and unlike 20 years ago they aren't all from Minnesota. But fact of the matter is that soccer is the 5th most popular sport in the US.
