63. The Endless (Shudder)

I kinda like this movie a hell of a lot. Really interesting stuff.

The Endless is about two brothers who escaped a UFO cult that head back at the one brother's insistence who never wanted to leave in the first place. When they get there, they suspect there is something strange happening.

So this is a film on a very clear budget, but man did they ever figure out how to make it work. It's a really good story and it does some clever things tog et away with that while being pretty unsettling in its own right. But it's ultimately a story about the bond between these two brothers.

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the directors and leads in this movie, show the dynamic between both of them not being happy with their lives and the strife between the both of them. The one just wants to take care of his brother but just sucks at it, while the other one just wants him to trust him to make his own choices. And when they get to the cult, they start to get torn apart.

And they make it clear early on there is something very weird and very real watching them, and the way they slowly reveal things are interesting. Multiple scenes they have are just unsettling, and the characters they stumble across are fascinating as well. If I had one complaint though, is that it feels a bit long. I think they could have trimmed this down a little. At the same time, man is it ever good what they give us.

Definitely recommend this one. It's a fun time if you're looking for a movie with a lot of interesting ideas and a good execution on a budget.
