My own grandmother is pretty old. I actually kinda wondered who go first, her or Queen Liz.

RIP

I don't know if 'lovebird syndrome' is any kind of officially or unofficially-accepted medical phenomenon, but I see it all the time. As was already pointed out, Elizabeth started going downhill after Philip died. Stan Lee didn't last more than a year after his wife passed, iirc. Even my own grandmother went downhill and passed within months of my grandfather, despite the fact that - due to his Alzheimer's and needing to be in a rest home - she'd barely seen him in his last few years.

When a person gets to that age and loses the spouse they've spent most of their life with, they simply lose the will to go on living.

My grandfather died ten years ago and my grandma is still hanging on. I don't know what that says since by all accounts they loved each other.
