Donkey Kong Country (SNES): This is pure nostalgia, but you can't stop me. I remember playing the first one at my friend Sam's house in 1994, and being blown away. I asked my mom for it, and she bought it, put it on a shelf to mock me, and said I could play it only when I got all As in school. Like, the games themselves are fine or whatever, but the graphics for 1994 are insane. I don't really know how you describe what they look like, but they look like nothing else on the SNES. I can't call them more realistic, but the sprites are more detailed in a way that nothing else at the time was. Visually, at least, these games are great.

Allison Road (Video Game): I watched the whole prototype gameplay for this, and the thing I took away was that modern games still can't show liquid falling correctly. At one point, the main character turns on a faucet, then turns it off, and the way the water falls looks so unnatural. But yes, vaguely PT vibes here. You know, has there ever been a positive portrayal of Christianity in a video game? Like, not those cheapo Christian games made in Flash or whatever, I mean one game with religious themes where religion isn't used as a scary force. Blood leaking down off the walls and a monster girl whose limbs are all double-jointed, yes, this is what I expect in a creepy horror game.

Where Winds Meet: Perfectly good feudal Japan where--wait, this is Ten Kingdoms China? Huh. Anyway, it's fine, but I don't have a lot to say about it. It's too bad that we get a ton of games set in medieval or fantasy Europe and Japan, and occasionally in China, but never elsewhere. I can't think of any Aztec video games, for instance, and the only Middle-Eastern ones I can think of are the Prince of Persia games. I'm just saying, I wouldn't say no to an action game where you run around fantasy India fighting tiger guys or something, I don't know.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Witches only)
God of War (2018)

Touhou: Years ago, when I ran one of the Most Powerful Fictional Character contests, I remember this being the series to create the most arguments. Like, I'm looking up Touhou right now, and I pulled up an official image on Steam, and it's like fifty identical preteen anime girls. I cannot tell any of them apartt at all except the red one and the witch, and only then because they're the largest in the image, so I assume they're the main characters. For God's sake, how many preteen anime girls do you need for a shmup? And does anyone actually like bullet hell games? Who plays them?

The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest: Which is worse, late 90s/early 2000s reboots of old cartoons that are trying to be serious, or late 2010s/early 2020s reboots that are all trying to be insincere parodies? The animation is at least good. I also like how they added Bannon's daughter purely to have a girl in the cast.
