I remember playing the first one at my friend Sam's house in 1994, and being blown away. I asked my mom for it, and she bought it, put it on a shelf to mock me, and said I could play it only when I got all As in school. Like, the games themselves are fine or whatever, but the graphics for 1994 are insane. I don't really know how you describe what they look like, but they look like nothing else on the SNES. I can't call them more realistic, but the sprites are more detailed in a way that nothing else at the time was. Visually, at least, these games are great. El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer Yoshi's Crafted World Dragon Ball FighterZ Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Dead Space Bayonetta Junji Ito The Old Guitarist Undertale/Deltarune Kingdom Hearts Super Mario World: So good. I remember being like six, suddenly realizing that the red levels had secret exits, and then spending forever trying to find them all. I never succeeded. Superman Smashes the Klan Kubo and the Two Strings Tales from the Crypt Toy Story Comix Zone El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Punisher (Greg Rucka) Halo Legends - The Package Samurai Jack Hollow Knight God of War (Original Series) Mario Strikers Journey (Game) Bloodborne Punch-Out!! (Wii) Saga of the Swamp Thing Futurama Allison Road (Video Game): I watched the whole prototype gameplay for this, and the thing I took away was that modern games still can't show liquid falling correctly. At one point, the main character turns on a faucet, then turns it off, and the way the water falls looks so unnatural. But yes, vaguely PT vibes here. You know, has there ever been a positive portrayal of Christianity in a video game? Like, not those cheapo Christian games made in Flash or whatever, I mean one game with religious themes where religion isn't used as a scary force. Blood leaking down off the walls and a monster girl whose limbs are all double-jointed, yes, this is what I expect in a creepy horror game. Marvel vs Capcom Devilman Crybaby Avatar: The Last Airbender Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart The Last of Us Part II Okami Kirby and the Forgotten Land Kirby's Dream Buffet Final Fantasy (Yoshitaka Amano) Library of Ruina Yazuka No More Heroes Sonic Mania Devil May Cry 3 Shadow of the Beast (Amiga) Garfield Minus Garfield Where Winds Meet: Perfectly good feudal Japan where--wait, this is Ten Kingdoms China? Huh. Anyway, it's fine, but I don't have a lot to say about it. It's too bad that we get a ton of games set in medieval or fantasy Europe and Japan, and occasionally in China, but never elsewhere. I can't think of any Aztec video games, for instance, and the only Middle-Eastern ones I can think of are the Prince of Persia games. I'm just saying, I wouldn't say no to an action game where you run around fantasy India fighting tiger guys or something, I don't know. Valkyrie Profile Watchmen Going to the Store Coraline Zork Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Witches only) God of War (2018) Primal Touhou: Years ago, when I ran one of the Most Powerful Fictional Character contests, I remember this being the series to create the most arguments. Like, I'm looking up Touhou right now, and I pulled up an official image on Steam, and it's like fifty identical preteen anime girls. I cannot tell any of them apartt at all except the red one and the witch, and only then because they're the largest in the image, so I assume they're the main characters. For God's sake, how many preteen anime girls do you need for a shmup? And does anyone actually like bullet hell games? Who plays them? C Tier Calvin and Hobbes Xenoblade One Piece Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny Kholat Mirror's Edge American Vampire Stray MORE Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Flip Flappers The Dark Spire Jet Set Radio Winnie the Pooh (1969) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Live A Live Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories New Pokemon Snap The Black Cauldron Arcane Knights in the Nightmare Grits (Game) FLCL Dreaming Mary Fortnite Invader Zim Hawkeye (David Aja) Kill Six Billion Demons Klaus (2019) Red Dead Redemption Kingdom (Manga) The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest: Which is worse, late 90s/early 2000s reboots of old cartoons that are trying to be serious, or late 2010s/early 2020s reboots that are all trying to be insincere parodies? The animation is at least good. I also like how they added Bannon's daughter purely to have a girl in the cast. Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Super Mario Galaxy The World Ends With You Super Mario Bros (NES) Little Big Planet: I have no particular love or hate for this. It exists, and that's my only interaction with it. Zenless Zone Zero Cool World Gestalt: Steam & Cinder Uncharted Runescape (Classic) The Secret of Kells Flowers of Evil Frozen Overwatch Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (2D art) Yu-Gi-Oh! Black-and-white boxes having adventures. Imagine this game coming out in the 90s, you just couldn't have this kind of intentionally minimalistic style even if the gameplay was identical. Jujutsu Kaisen Blacksad Monster Sanctuary King of the Hill Fez Ikaruga The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh The Books of Magic Vol 1 Warioware Killer7 Odin Sphere Over the Garden Wall Shadow of the Colossus Vib-Ribbon Guilty Gear Rayman Origins Cruelty Squad Masha and the Bear BLAME! Adventure Time Ib The Land Before Time Darksiders Alice's Wonderland Bakery Banjo-Kazooie Rock & Rule Yo Yogi! Mr. Driller series: Zero emotional effect on me whatsoever. Just don't care about it at all, sorry. I do like this lineup of characters I see on google, where one of them is clearly your rival because he's dressed in black and has one eye covered with hair.
